Flu remedies. Herbal & Homeopathic

Happy Sunday to you all.

Many have been asking me what herbs and remedies to use for winter lurgies.

Please find some suggestions and advice below.

ree

Echinacea

Helps to stimulate the immune function and many have said it reduces the duration and severity of colds and flu. Great to take as a tincture. Not to be taken by children under 12.

Elderberry

Rich in antioxidants and antiviral compounds. A wonderful remedy to take for early flu symptoms. It can be used by children and is normally done so as a syrup. Adults can either drink it as a tea or take it as a tincture. Can be blended with echinacea for people over 12.

Oregano oil

A powerful antimicrobial that can help clear respiratory infections. Great for clearing parasites and Candida too. It can be taken as an oil. A couple of drops in a little water, then taken on an empty stomach. Dried forms may be added to food or taken as a tea.

Garlic

A natural antibiotic and immune stimulant. Its highest potency is when taken raw or lightly cooked.  Great as an Oxymel blended with other herbs.

Respiratory Supportive Herbs. Helpful for congestion, sore throats, and cough relief.

Thyme

A natural expectorant that helps clear mucus. Great in tea or taken as a tincture. Also wonderful when used as an essential oil, in balms, or oil burners.

Mullein leaf

Helps to ease dry coughs. Clears and supports healthy lung function. Wonderful as a tea, or tincture.

Liquorice root

Soothes the throat and supports the adrenal glands. Please avoid in cases of high blood pressure.

Peppermint

Helps to open airways, relieves sinus pressure, and cools feverish discomfort. Wonderful when used in an oil burner/diffuser or taken in tea form.

Gentle restorative herbs.

These help the body recover and regain strength.

Ginger

Very warming for the body, helps improve circulation and relieves nausea. Can be taken in tea form and tastes wonderful blended with lemon and honey.

Turmeric

Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Supports overall recovery. Normally taken in capsule form or as a tea. Great with a pinch of black pepper and even added to ginger.

Lemon balm

Calms the nervous system and gently supports the immune response. Lovely with honey as a tea. Can also be taken as a tincture.

Tips for Use

Drink herbal teas

2-3 times a day (e.g., ginger + lemon + honey, thyme + liquorice + mint).

Tinctures extract more compounds than tea, so a much smaller dosage is required.  When taken under the tongue, tinctures do not have to go through the digestion process so are assimilated a lot quicker. The plus side of tea, is it also enables  fluid intake but may need more time to work, as it takes longer for the medicinal compounds to break down.

A gentle reminder, if you do take a tincture please also drink lots of fluids alongside.
